Work...

Hi my dear Friends

This post is more for my dear friends of the University than for the family...
I'm not in the United states of America for making some funny vacation in the sun ( would have been great, but boring after a while). So i gonna talk a bit about I'm doing at the moment. So since the first day of work I'm learning how to use a program named FlexPDE
It doesn't look very nice and sophisticated like Comsol but it works very well.
The good points of this program are the fact that you have to put all the equations by hand so you know what you're solving. and that all the files are very light because it's just text. The bad side of it is that you have to generate the figures, that you want to create, with codes. That's just annoying do you have to be very precise in what you're doing.

For the moment I have been asked to generate a program capable to create almost any three phase Synchronous AC motor you want. So the user should be able to choose almost all the parameter of the machine and FlexPDE will generate a 2D simulation of it.

The final objective of this program is the modeling of a superconducting motor for Wind turbines for a big Chinese company. (I can't say to much about it here ^^)

I will put some pictures of my work tomorrow so you can see how it looks like.

Hermann Park

Hi guys (and girls)

I hope you're all fine.
This weekend I went to Hermann Park, and it's i think the prettiest place i ever went in Houston (Brazos is outside so it doesn't count ^^)
We first went to the Chinese part: who was quite sober but nice.

There was also a Rose garden

It wasn't very big but the flowers looked very nice. (sadly i didn't took to much photographs)

Then we went to the main part of the park who was really amazing even-though it was crowded.

The park was also full of animals (I'm not talking of the Americans ^^)
Like turtles, ducks, gooses, and some kind of nutria

As you saw on the pictures it was pretty sunny and it was a real pleasure to walk around this park.
I saw also some weird things like a mother and is child feeding ducks with chips!?

Their where also a bunch of people who made their wedding photos in the park, some of the couple looked very nice.

On Sunday then I was invited for lunch in a French family, it was great and we ate so much!!! During the whole afternoon i had totally forgotten that i was in the US.

In the evening i had also the great chance to go to
the Flying Lotus concert in Houston

(it's not the show in Houston but looks pretty the same except that the sound was much better ^^)

First day and first Seminar

Hi my dear Friends

I gonna tell you a little bit about my first working day in Houston.
For the moment I'm living with one of my colleague named Clement who is very nice to me.
We went at 9 am to the university, It's a really great and pretty place. I don't have made any photos of it yet but soon i will publish some ^^
I meet my "Boss" Mr. Masson, we talked a bit about what i gonna do during my internship and what i will probably do for my PhD (sounds great to me). The day was filled with paper work and reading, so actually nothing really interesting at all...
I did also meet some of the guys who are gonna work with me like Guillaume, Ting Cheng et some others
Before lunch we meet Mr.Rossi
and we went to the seminar he gave at UH (University of Houston)
LHC and the of Superconductivity in the Hunt for the Higgs Boson
It was simply amazing and very interesting. This guy is the leader of the High Luminosity LHC at CERN, and also 2013 IEEE-‐CSC Distinguished Lecturer for Superconductivity.
For more infos you can look here
He also gave an over conference on Tuesday who was also very interesting

The Mystery of Matter and the Hunt for the God Particle

I'm sorry that I don't wrote so much lately, i never really find the time to write , but i hope this will change and i will try to put a lot of pictures of the University .

Brazos Bend Park

Hi guys

After a quite difficult night because of the time difference between France and the US. On Sunday I went with some guys of the Lab and their friends and family to Brazos Bend Park for a Pic-nic.
It was really great I meet some very nice guys (and girls) like Denis, Phillippe, Loane, Maelle, Clement, Pauline and a bunch of others ^^

It was terribly hot, it felt like i would cook under the sun...
But apart from the heat everything was really great, we ate some good stuff (I didn't had a BBQ since some much time). I saw also for the first time of my life some alligators

But nothing to worry they are perfectly inoffensive. They spent most of the time ignoring us...
There was not only alligators, there was also a lot of Birds, one prettier than the other

We did a little walk together and enjoyed the sun and the beautiful nature around us.

there were even some turtles

In conclusion it was a great time and a great day even though i was quite tied. I met some very cool and nice guys .
Sorry that i didn't write so much but i think the pictures shows clearly how nice this day was.

Let's get started

Hi dear Friends

As you know I'm off for an Internship in the United States for 4 and a half months. I do hope that you understand a little bit English so you can read my Blog (I make much less mistakes in English than in French ) So I traveled to Houston on Saturday the 13th. My trip started at the airport of Luxembourg and then London HEATHROW. The airport in London was the biggest I ever saw!!! To travel to one terminal to an other it's at least 10 min of bus and then you have to find the gate for your plane and travel within the terminal with a subway...

Then was a very long travel to Houston... 11 hours! At least i had a screen so i could watch some movies (The Hobbits, Skyfall etc...).
After that exhausting trip I had to go throw the custom, it was long especially since I was so tied. I waited at least 45 min just to show my Visa.
And after that, I had to find the person who should have picked me up... It was a bit complicated, especially since they didn't know how I look like and I barely remembered the face of Denis. But after 30 minutes of search and stress i finally found them and everything was alright.

So just so you know I arrived in Houston, I'm safe but a bit tied
I will soon put some other pictures of Houston and give you some more news about what I'm doing out there.
